Reasons for choosing the Department of Cardiology, Kobe University 神戸大循環器内科を
選んだ理由

高校時代にふと「身体のことって案外知らないものだな」と感じたことが、医学に興味を持つきっかけでした。学んだことが直接仕事に活かせて、人の役に立てる、それが医師を志した理由です。専門領域については当初、内視鏡を使った早期がん治療に携われたらと消化器内科希望でしたが、次第に循環器内科が面白くなってきて。後期研修からの5年間は、カテーテル治療の実績豊富な倉敷中央病院の循環器内科で経験を積みました。
その後、神戸で結婚生活を送ることになったのを機に、出身校である神戸大に入局。子どもが生まれてからは、より責任感も増しましたね。神戸大循環器内科は、子どもの学校行事に参加するために教員が率先して休むような、育児と仕事の両立に理解のある職場。子どもが入院して付き添いが必要になったときに、教授から「すべてサポートするから、家庭を優先するように」と心強い言葉をかけてもらったことは、今でも鮮明に覚えています。 In high school, I remember thinking, “We actually don’t know much about our own bodies,” which sparked my interest in medicine. I was drawn to becoming a physician because what I learn can be directly applied to helping others. Initially, I was interested in gastroenterology, hoping to be involved in early cancer treatment using endoscopy. But over time, I became fascinated by cardiology. During my five years of advanced training, I gained experience in catheter-based procedures at Kurashiki Central Hospital, which has a strong track record in this field. Later, when I moved to Kobe for family reasons, I joined Kobe University, my alma mater. After having children, my sense of responsibility grew even stronger. The Department of Cardiology at Kobe University is very supportive of work–life balance—for example, faculty members are encouraged to take time off for their children’s school events. I still vividly remember when my child had to be hospitalized and the professor told me, “We’ll take care of everything here, so you should prioritize your family.” That support has left a lasting impression on me.

エピソード

画像診断を勉強しはじめたのは、「これからはより身体に負担の少ない検査や治療が主流になる、この分野を学ばずに医者を続けていくのは不可能だろう」と考えたから。画像診断は、直接治療の手を施すことはないものの、「診断や治療方針を大きく変える情報」を提供できることが大きな魅力ですね。
以前、街中で心肺停止となり、救急搬送されてきた患者さんがいて、その原因がわからなかったことがあります。心臓MRIを撮ってみると、その画像から、非常に目立たない血管が詰まり、心筋梗塞を起こしていたことが判明しました。血管の形は千差万別、人の数だけバリエーションがあります。患者さんの病態を明らかにする予想外の手がかりを見つけることができ、「役に立てた」と大きなやりがいを感じた経験でした。 I began studying diagnostic imaging because I thought, “In the future, less invasive examinations and treatments will become the standard. It would be impossible to continue practicing medicine without understanding this field.” While imaging doesn’t directly involve therapeutic intervention, its major appeal is that it can provide information that drastically changes diagnoses and treatment strategies. I remember a patient who had suffered cardiac arrest in the middle of the city and was brought in by emergency services. At first, the cause was unclear. But when we performed a cardiac MRI, the images revealed that a very small, almost unnoticed vessel was blocked, causing a myocardial infarction. Blood vessels vary greatly from person to person, and being able to find unexpected clues that clarify a patient’s condition gave me a profound sense of fulfillment—I truly felt that I had been able to help.

What I value as a doctor 医師として
大切にしていること

患者さんの話をよく聞いた上でプロとしてアドバイスし、治療に対して一緒に取り組めるように心がけています。心臓のこととなると、患者さんも大きな不安を抱えていることが多いので、丁寧かつ明確に説明することで少しでも不安を和らげてあげたいですね。
医師が患者さんと向き合える診察時間は、長い治療期間のほんの一瞬。日常生活において治療に取り組んでくれるかどうかは、医師との信頼関係にかかっています。患者さん自らが治療の必要性を理解することが何よりも大事であり、私たち医師は患者さんが治るためのお手伝いをしている、というスタンスで診療に取り組んでいます。 I make it a point to listen carefully to my patients and provide professional advice, so that we can work together on their treatment. When it comes to heart conditions, patients often carry significant anxiety, so I strive to explain things clearly and thoroughly to help ease their worries. The time a physician spends with a patient during a consultation is only a brief moment in a long treatment journey. Whether patients adhere to treatment in their daily lives depends largely on the trust they have in their doctor. It is most important for patients to understand why their treatment is necessary, and I approach care with the mindset that we, as physicians, are there to support them in their journey toward recovery.

Lively Time わたしがイキイキする瞬間

  • On Work

    循環器内科には、「急がなければいけない」と身が引き締まる状況がしばしば訪れます。そんなとき、自分のギアが一段上がる。画像診断においても、緊急症例に対応するときはグッと集中力が高まります。よりよい治療につながる糸口を掴めると、「画像診断をやっててよかった！」と思いますね。 In cardiology, there are often moments when you feel the urgency of a situation and know you must act quickly. In those moments, I shift into a higher gear. The same is true in diagnostic imaging—when handling an emergency case, my focus sharpens. When I’m able to uncover a clue that leads to better treatment, I think to myself, “I’m really glad I chose imaging!”

  • Off Time

    家族で食卓を囲んだり、子どもの自転車練習に付き合ったり、家族で過ごす何気ない時間が一番しあわせです。子どもから話を聞いている都市型水族館「atoa」や、新しくなった「須磨シーワールド」が楽しそうなので、今度一緒に行ってみたいです。 The happiest moments for me are simple times spent with my family—sharing meals together or helping my children practice riding their bikes. My kids have been talking about the urban aquarium “atoa” and the newly renovated Suma Sea World, so I’d love to visit them together sometime soon.
